抄録 Recently, there are some serious issues about daily food intake which people try to solve. Food education in school is so important for forming good dietary habits. There are a lot of good classes in food education in Japan. We can incorporate many ideas from food education from abroad.
 In this paper, we propose an idea for Japanese dietary education through some surveys; one of the authors, M.TANAKA observed a Swedish elementary/junior high school, and surveyed elementary school students, junior high school students and university students through a questionnaire, when M.TANAKA studied in Linchoping University for a year.
*Food education in Swedish home economics education
 Food education is so important in Swedish home economics education. There are three important points; (1) choosing by one's self (2) practical (3)studying in small numbers.
*School lunch in a Swedish elementary/Junior high school
 The Swedish local government manages the daily school lunch under "Guidelines for a good school lunch" by Livsmedelsverket which includes principles and methodology. Swedish school lunches use a buffet style, whereby students choose meals by themselves for every lunch.
*Survey about school lunches
 We used a questionnaire to survey about school lunches and choosing meals (May 2009. for second grade students and eighth grade students). The results show that second grade students do not eat so much and eighth grade students have clear ideas of what they like and dislike.
*Survey about university students’ dietary habits
 We surveyed university students about their daily food intake. (May, 2009) Most of Swedish university students cook everyday and think about well-balanced meals. Swedish university students take into account the 'price', 'taste', 'quality', 'freshness' and 'perishabilites' while selecting foods. They make it a point to cook daily.
*Propositions
 Having good dietary habits is not so easy. It takes a long time for students to choose healthy meals and to control their own daily lives. We need long term food education as in Sweden. We need more practical and visual methodology like the Swedish plate model which is used from elementary school students to university student.
